To Scrum or not to scrum ... some of "my" views

Continued from http://dotnet.org.za/willy/archive/2008/09/12/scrum-atc-has-its-very-own-certified-scrum-master.aspx . What makes scrum different from the classic waterfall model ... "my" views range from nothing to lots! Why nothing? From a specific altitude both have a beginning and an end for a project ... normally. Both can split work into junks of "stuff", resulting in a number of manageable waterfalls making up one huge waterfall. Both typically pass or fail with the team...

Benefits of Integrating Visual Studio Team Tester with Automated Builds in a Project

A colleague of mine has just completed a testimonial, covering the advantages of having and disadvantages of not having automated builds and testing in a project. The document is based on an experience with TSF/VSTS, but is actually technology agnostic and focuses on the concept of automated build & test. Find it here and give us your comments. Scrum ... ATC has its very own certified scrum master

ASTRA Technology Core (ATC), the technology research and evangelism unit within BB&D, has its very own certified scrum master "Mr" Zayd Kara. Well done Zayd!   ... visit Zayd here . We had a feedback session with Zayd yesterday and he confirmed that our past exposures and use of Scrum was not 100% according to the Agile Manifesto, but that we are on a positive road. The terminology, the planning and the roles of a scrum master were interesting, especially as our dear Herman was...

TechED 2008 South-Africa - Q&A Part 2

Continued from http://dotnet.org.za/willy/archive/2008/08/05/teched-2008-south-africa-q-amp-a.aspx . When will Microsoft support integration with TFS/VSTS for the Expression Blend tools? The topic has been under discussion with the product team and MVPs, whereby it seems that integration is under serious consideration. We will update this blog post as soon as we notice movement on that frontline. Share this post: email it! | bookmark it! | digg it! | reddit! | kick it! | live it!

Here are some of the questions we received during TechED, which we promised to follow up. Thanks to the "rocking" MVP and product colleagues, we also have some answers q;-) What is the support of MSSCI with TFS 2008 … are there any known issues or is the product fully supported? Fully supported with the latest MSSCCI provider Power Tool Is there an add-in to integrate Delphi development IDEs and TFS, i.e. a Delphi(Team)prise type product? See the blog post "Connecting Team Foundation...

Branching Guidance II ... a question to the communities

We have been having a few discussions ... at times debates, whether a branch is a trunk, or both the same or them being different altogether. I have put it into the semantics category and have deprioritised it  for the time being ... but we can cat about it at TechED q;-) The other topic, which I would like to throw into the lions den today, is whether the approach of starting at the MAIN branch is the right and only way, or whether there are teams that start with the DEV branch as in the right...

Why is the interoperability drive so important to us?

This must be the gazillionth time I am writing this blog post, whereby I deleted the previous attempts as I wanted to avoid the possible whiplash I will receive from some of my colleagues and the more 'radical' technologists. Henk, who is one of my colleagues involved in our interoperability drive within our company, in our technology communities and more recently at universities, emailed me two links, which everyone must have a look at: Microsoft Becomes Official Apache Sponsor Sam Ramji...
